Story description

You remember the final battle. Your sister remembers that you are late for breakfast.

After years of guilds, dungeons, and a war you could not win, you died facing the Hollow King. Now you have awakened on the morning it all began, in an untested body, with every painful memory intact. Second Wind is an interactive regression fantasy about using a second chance before history catches up.

Knowledge is your only head start

Your old strength is gone. Your memories remain: the mentor you lost, the rival who betrayed you, the warnings everyone dismissed. The people you meet have no idea what they once meant to you, and every change you make can move events away from the future you remember.

  • Rebuild your skills while preparing for dangers that nobody else believes are coming.
  • Approach familiar friendships and rivalries differently, or try to preserve the bonds that mattered.
  • Choose which warning to act on first when saving one person could change everything that follows.

Meet people you have already lost

A familiar face can be harder to handle than a familiar threat. Your sister is still living an ordinary morning. A future mentor has not yet chosen to protect you. Someone who betrayed you may not have reached the circumstances that made betrayal possible. You carry years of affection, grief, and anger into relationships that, for everyone else, have barely begun.

Do you warn them about events you cannot prove? Keep your knowledge private while quietly changing their chances? Give a former enemy an opportunity to become someone else? Acting differently means accepting that the people you remember may never become quite those people again, including the ones you loved.

Prepare while the world still feels safe

The early warnings are small enough for others to dismiss: an unsettling rumor, trouble on a border, a silence where news should be arriving. You recognize their possible significance, but preparation competes with the demands of being weak and inexperienced again. A useful alliance may take time to earn. A skill you once relied on still needs training. Following one lead can leave another unattended. Your second chance becomes a series of decisions about what deserves to change first.

A future that can stop being familiar

Foreknowledge gives you leverage, not certainty. Small decisions create new consequences, and the closer you look, the less simple repeating your old successes becomes.

Your sister is outside the door, alive. What will you do differently this morning?
