Story description

Your place at the academy was earned or inherited. Everyone is about to ask which.

Steel and Station is an interactive swordsmanship academy adventure set in a medieval fantasy realm where noble houses have shaped the Academy of the Bladed Court for generations. You arrive as a noble heir or a commoner who won a rare open-trial place. The choice changes what people expect from you before you ever draw a blade.

Train where reputation meets steel

  • Develop your swordsmanship under demanding instruction and test yourself against competing dueling traditions.
  • Navigate house rivalries, inherited grudges, and rules that favor the well-connected.
  • Build friendships across class boundaries or choose which loyalties to defend when they collide.

The academy's formal dueling code lets matters of honor become matters of skill. Calling for a duel can protect your reputation, threaten it, or put someone you care about on the other side of a blade. Victory has social consequences as well as physical ones.

Choose your inheritance, then decide how to carry it

Arriving as a noble can mean pressure to uphold a house's traditions, settle its old rivalries, or prove that its reputation still deserves respect. Arriving through an open trial can mean repeatedly demonstrating that your place was earned to people who consider earning it the wrong qualification. Your origin changes the starting pressures; your choices determine which ones become part of your identity.

The academy's houses have distinct approaches to the blade. Some prize textbook discipline, others a more aggressive style, and some carry the anxiety of declining influence. Learning from them offers more than a technique: it brings you into contact with the people defending those traditions and the ambitions behind them.

Understand the challenge before accepting it

A formal duel is public enough for reputation to matter and serious enough for skill to have consequences. You might invoke the code to answer an insult, be drawn into a challenge you would rather avoid, or have to decide whether standing aside would abandon someone else. A fair instructor, a rival capable of respect, and friendships that cross class boundaries can complicate what initially looks like a simple division. The story invites you to build a place in that world without assuming loyalty is determined entirely by birth.

Decide what honor means to you

This grounded fantasy blends training, political intrigue, and the possibility of finding people worth standing beside. Nobles and commoners can become rivals or allies; your conduct helps determine which.

The training yard is already watching. What will your first challenge tell them about you?
