Getting started & discovering stories
What is Echory?
Echory is a platform for interactive AI stories. You step into a character and write what they do or say. The AI narrates the scene and responds to your move. Your adventure develops one exchange at a time.
Do I need an account?
You can browse public stories in the library without signing in. To play, sign in, choose your persona and start a story. If you do not have an account yet, use the registration page.
How do I find and start a story?
Open the library and choose a story or a genre. On the story detail page, read the description and meet the featured characters. Sign in, choose your persona and click “Start story”.
What kinds of worlds can I explore?
The library includes fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, steampunk and war. Use the genre selection to find stories with a theme you enjoy. Read a story’s description before starting to see what kind of world awaits.
Playing, personas & memory
What is a persona?
A persona is the character you bring into a story. Give them a name and a description. Under “My Personas”, you can create and edit multiple personas and set one as your default. Choose the character you want when starting a story.
Do I have to choose from fixed answers?
No. You write your own actions and dialogue. The AI continues the scene in response. A story may offer suggestions, but you are free to write your own move.
How do I write a good move?
Write a concrete action with a clear intention. For example: *I inspect the seal without touching it.* Add dialogue if useful: “Who brought this letter?” Asterisks mark actions; quotation marks mark speech. A clear move gives the narrator something useful to respond to.
Can I continue later?
Yes. Your dashboard lists your ongoing chats under “Continue playing”. You can also open them from a story’s detail page. Choose the existing chat to carry on with that adventure.
How do I start the same story again?
Open the story detail page and use “Start story” to create a new chat. Choose the persona you want to play. To continue an existing adventure, open its ongoing chat instead.
What does memory do?
Memory holds entries for long-term knowledge, recent events, relationships and goals. In the player, open “Details” and then “Memory”. You can review, edit and delete entries, and add entries within the displayed limits. Check important facts if the narration drifts from earlier events.
Credits & quality
What do I need credits for?
AI replies use credits. The cost per reply depends on your chosen quality level. The value displayed in the player is the relevant cost. Check it and your balance before continuing.
Where can I see my balance and usage?
The player’s details panel shows your current balance. The credits page shows your balance and transaction history. Use it to review the entries that changed your balance.
Can I change quality during a chat?
Yes. Open “Details” in the player and select an available level under “Quality”. The selection shows the cost per reply for each level. Check the new cost before sending your next move.
Writing your own stories
Can I create my own stories?
Yes. Open “My Stories” and choose “New story”. In the editor, define the title, description, genre, setting, opening and characters. Add keywords and choose visibility. Save your story before playing it.
What belongs in the public description and the story details?
The public description introduces your story in the library. Make readers curious without giving away major twists. Internal story details give the AI background knowledge, world rules and context. They are not shown to players as the public description.
What makes a good opening scene?
Give the player a concrete place, a vivid situation and a reason to act. Leave room for their own move. For example: a locked door, footsteps behind it and an unfamiliar key in their hand. Use the “Narrative style” field to describe how you want the AI to tell the story.
Can I keep characters secret at first?
Yes. In the editor, characters can be set to “Public” or “Hidden”. This lets you decide which characters are introduced in advance. Put background details and connections that do not belong in the public description into the internal story details.
What does public or private mean for a story?
Set visibility in the story editor. A public story can be discovered in the library. A private story is intended for your own play. Check the visibility before saving so the story is available as you intend.
When something goes wrong
The AI reply failed. What should I do?
If the player says your message was saved, use “Retry”. This requests the pending reply again. Do not send the same move as another new message. If you see a low-balance notice or a pause in play, follow that notice first.
A reply stops in the middle of the scene. Can I continue it?
If the player shows “Continue generating”, use it to extend a cut-off reply. Wait for the continuation to finish before writing your next move.
Why can’t I play or register right now?
Play and registration can be temporarily paused. The interface shows a notice when this happens. Try again later. If it specifically reports insufficient credits, check your balance and the cost of the selected quality level.
I can’t sign in. What should I check?
Check that you entered your account’s email address and the correct password. If you do not have an account yet, open “Register”. Use your email address to sign in, rather than your display name.
What happens when I delete a chat?
The chat is permanently deleted. Confirming deletion cannot be undone. Only delete a chat if you no longer need its history. Deleting your own story or a memory entry also requires a confirmation.
